We currently have a page that lists all so called Minor Characters, personally I feel this is completely unnecessary for to me all lives, I mean all characters matter and just on many other wiki's all of them deserve their own place especially when most of them are bound to appear again, I mean the secondary prostitutes both appear in tower of conviction arc and in the fantasia arc. Also fiery already made links to them in one of her recent edits. Also if all of them have their own page this will make it so much easier for me to update all the character and chapter pages next year. So if anyone has objections to them getting their own page vouch them here, if this doesn't happen then next month (a week from now) I will start making them.

So, for the past 2 months certain character articles on the wikia have had a quotes section, which were contributed to almost exclusively by user Dalek Ubik. Admin Eck recently decided to remove the quotes sections from these articles because the page template/layout guide for character articles does not include a quotes section.

I have temporarily restored the quotes sections on Griffith's and Zodd's pages to show you what they look like. Please check these.

This thread is, first and foremost, to discuss whether we should reintroduce the deleted quotes sections to the character articles.

Looking at this from a balanced perspective, key quotes from specific points in the story (from the official translation, of course) show a character's personality well, and are a "nice thing to read" - if you excuse my poor wording. However, they are quite superfluous, and as you can see from Griffith's page, when a character has a lot of quotes the section can take up a lot of space. While the quotes themselves are really nice, the formatting looks strange with all of them directly below each other.

I've sat on this topic for a few days - not wanting Dalek Ubik's hard work to be thrown out - and i've come up with an alternate suggestion that does not involve discarding all the quotes, but keeps the quotes sections out of the character articles:

Currently, we have an "introductory quote" at the top of many character articles - Eck has set this up and has chosen quotes that best reflect the character's personality - they "summarise" a character's opinions and personality as much as a quote can.

I think it would be nice to have an "introductory quote" at the top of manga episode articles as well - the quote chosen would either be a key quote from the most impactful moment in the episode, or would "summarise" an episode's events. That way, there is consistency between the character articles and the manga articles, readers get to read a cool quote, and, since Dalek Ubik added quotes to the quote sections that were key to the characters/events, we don't have to throw out any of his work!

For example, in Zodd's quote section we have his prophecy to Guts - "If you consider this man your true friend, and regard him as a brother, then know this. When this man's ambition crumbles, it is your destiny to face your death. A death you can never escape!" He says this to Guts in episode 5 of the manga. It's the key point and the focus of the episode.

If we had it at the top of the article, it would look like this. (I've set this up temporarily for the sake of discussion.) This quote is a little longer.

To look at a more typically sized example, i've set up another model for episode 32. This one is a quote from Griffith's section this time - "you are too accustomed to scheming from behind your desks. This is war; there are no spectator seats on the battlefield." The central plot point this episode is Griffith killing the Queen of Midland and the nobles that oppose him - it summarises Griffith's feelings quite well.

The quote could also be placed at the top of the summary section rather than the very top of the article. I've modeled this format with episode P's article.

TLDR - should we:

- Re-add the quotes sections to the character articles - nice quotes, but superfluous and awkwardly spaced out. Pads out the character articles: Example

- Keep the quotes sections out of the character articles, but reincorporate the contents into key introductory quotes at the top of the manga episode articles - makes the pages consistent with character articles, but looks a little awkward with longer quotes: Example

I prefer the quotes at the top of the article rather than keeping the sections or having no quotes at all, but at the top of the summary works too. My main concern with doing it at the top of summaries is that some episodes don't have them. That can be remedied, but will take time.

I'm starting to notice a recurring problem here that happens on wikis occasionally, and that's people adding (and thus creating) categories willy-nilly, which often end up being redundant, unneccessary, or a duplicate. This has been known to happen every once in a while, and I think Silent Hill Wiki once made it a policy that that kind of thing has to be admin-approved first.

I'm thinking we might should install a similar policy here and put it where it's noticeable, because this is the third time I've had to delete categories that were mishandled. Since anyone can create a category, but only administrators can delete them, this could prove to be a helpful policy, as otherwise we're going to have a workload on our hands that could be easily avoided.

There are plenty of great berserk quotes that deserve recognition, would it be alright to add a quotes section to the character articles?

Hey! I'm new here! As I've been editing the wording of several character articles one thing I've noticed is the inconsistent tense usage in the appearance and personality sections of deceased characters. For example, Adolf (deceased) has his personality section written in the past tense, which makes sense given that he's dead. His daugther Collette, despite also being dead, has her section written in the present tense. Dahl is dead yet his personality section is in the present tense too ("he is a cowardly man"). Godo's introductory line is in the past tense ("was a blacksmith") but the rest of his article is in the present. 

Pippin has both his appearence section and personality section in the past tense. Corkus has his appearence section in the present and his personality section in the past. Judeau has both his sections in the present. 

I want to change this once I've gone through and fixed all the typos and incorrect wording in the character pages. I think it makes sense for dead characters to definitely have their personalities described in the past tense. As for appearence, that can go either way. Past because the characters are dead or present because the drawings of the characters are still here, if you understand my logic.

Either way, I just want these things to be consistent. What tense should be used for the apprearence and personality sections of dead characters? Should I bother to change them so they are consistent in the first place?

For me:

Appearence : Either ALL in the present tense or ALL in the past

Personality : ALL in the past

I want other people's opinions before I go changing all the deceased character pages like this. Can you tell me what tense you would prefer for each section, or if I shouldn't bother at all? It's an annoying issue for me but it might be unneeded for you. I don't mind going through everything and changing it in a minor way, so it's not a waste of my time or anything. Thanks everyone.

Hello there.

As someone who edits on this wiki and happens to be one of the admins on yet another Berserk wiki, I can't help thinking that I'm doing something heinous at times. Here we are, wishing to chronicle a work of fiction that is not intended for minors and happens to be set in a dark world where killings and rape are commonplace. As a means of chronicling it, images are needed. And, from time to time, we can't pick more than an image. Or crop it without making the image lose its context or importance within the work.

Wikia is a "family website" with certain terms of use. As such, we users can't "post or transmit any content that is obscene, pornographic, abusive, offensive, profane [...] or content that contains homophobia, ethnic slurs, religious intolerance, or encourages criminal conduct". I am sure people here try to abide by the rules. I sure do. But what can you do when the images you need to upload will be deleted regardless of their context? Why can I upload an image of Pippin being torn by the Count without a problem yet the likes of Rosine's minions or Puck (yes, I said Puck) might and will get wiped off without warning?

Isn't there anything we can do to stop this situation? Can't Wikia just stick a "not suited for minors" message before accessing the "dangerous" wiki in question and let us edit?

Any thoughts on this are more than welcome.

Admin User Eckilsax took the solitary iniative and the unilateral decision to enable the badges and redesign and rename them without consulting any other users or admins. In my opinion this was a very wrong thing to do. To me communication is key to a wikia. And doing something so influencial to the wiki without conversation or consent is just plain bad regardless from my response to it which will be discussed in another forum. All wikia's allow admins to enable certain special functions like article comments, top 10 lists, achievement badges, chat, blogs, polls, map, forum, new image galleries, message walls and exhibitions. All of these things need to be when an admin wants to change them be discussed by the community before the change is made. Not afterwards as now was the case. Over 8 months ago I wanted to remove chat since it was completely unused, however I did not want to go to the hassle of discussing it with Straw and Betsy so I left it be. For I learned the hard way that anything that might warrent discussion before doing should be discussed. However User SilenceInTheLibrary feels different about things he feels admins should have the right to turn wiki features off and on, on their own solitary whim without any discussion about it.

This forum is there to find out if people agree with me that changes to wiki features (turning them off or on) like article comments, chat, polls, forums and achievement badges. Should be discussed by the community or at least by multiple admins before they are enacted. Or if people agree with SilenceInTheLibrary that admins should be able to make these decisions without any conversation or communication in which case a single admin potentially could decide to one day out of nowhere disable the chat when it is no longer in use.
