"Exodus" is episode 294 of the Berserk manga series.

Synopsis[]

Laban leads the disguised population of Wyndham to freedom under the noses of the Kushan army. The Arklow Knights around him quietly voice their misgivings about Laban's new plan, but he reassures them that everything the children dreamt of have come true up to that point. Nearly out of the Kushan garrison, Laban is stopped by two Kushan guards who ask for information on Laban's unit. Laban cannot answer; the guards spoke in the Kushan language, which Laban doesn't understand. The guards slowly become more agitated as they repeat their question and Laban does not answer, but before they move into action, a Kushan horseman arrives with a dispatch order for the guards, allowing Laban and Wyndham's population to pass through.

The Kushan horseman whispers into Laban's ear, revealing his name (Jarif) and explaining that he is member of the Band of the Falcon's espionage division, and that there are many other Kushan who've pledged fealty to the Falcon. After pondering on how Midland would never draft soldiers from their enemies, the group continues to walk, but more figures bar their way, having just jumped from a tree: Silat and the Tapasa. Silat reveals that he is aware that Laban and the Kushan regiment behind him are really disguised Midlanders, and he derides Jarif for turning traitor.

The disguised men closest to Silat have all drawn their weapons, expecting a fight to break out. However, Jarif engages Silat in conversation. He recognizes Silat and the Tapasa as members of the Bakiraka clan and knows of their history: they are a disgraced Kushan clan exiled from their homeland. Though they worked as assassins -including serving the lands of the Holy See, which surprises the Midlanders-, they now see an opportunity to redeem themselves in the war.

Knowing all this, the horseman extends an offer to the clan of Bakiraka to serve the Falcon, noting that they currently serve an empire of terror, led by a mad emperor, something that tarnishes their pride. Silat proclaims that the Bakiraka side with the strong, not caring who they might be if that's all they take to claim a land in which to live peacefully. In response to this, Jarif asks Silat that the truth is that the Bakiraka might find their home 'beneath the wings of the falcon', as the future he will bring about may lie outside the reason of that world of man. Confused, Silat asks for clarification on this statement. Unsure, Jarif explains that it's a conviction felt by those sided by Griffith. He then adds that there's some inescrutable, tremendous current, with the Falcon guiding them to a new world and the war being a single event within that current.

Silat is intrigued by this statement, but ultimately dismisses it and decides to leave. The Tapasa object, but Silat points out the simple fact that they can't capture so many people on their own. Though aknowledging he might have caught glimpses of it and the Bakiraka have been at the mercy of an undeniable fate, Silat explains that the Bakiraka have come to ponder whether it is right to yield oneself to something inescrutable, so Silat will instead watch events unfold and see whether this "new world" comes calling or not. With that, the Bakiraka take their leave.
