Mozgus' Disciples[8] were the devoted torturers of Mozgus.[4] They also acted as his bodyguards.[4][9][8] Each was chased from villages and towns because of their appearance. Some were sold to circuses and forced to live in forests.[5] They are turned into pseudo-apostles by the Egg of the Perfect World,[8][7] granting them the power they desire so that he can guide "the greater will" as an omen to the Incarnation Ceremony.[10] They are good at using their torture implements as actual combat tools.[4][7] After their siring, they can strategize and temporarily overpower strong opponents.[2][3]
Background[]
Over time, Mozgus rescued six disfigured people. He told them that while they were shunned by their appearance, no scripture condemned them. As such, Mozgus said that both their unusual appearances and their negative emotions were needed by God. Thus, he instilled pride and faith in them.[5] With wills of iron long cultivated by strict discipline and duty, the inquisitor saw them as useful to him during a time of crisis,[1] employing them as torturers.[4][6]
Story[]
Mozgus' disciples are introduced during the attack on Mozgus' carriage, counterattacking the offending vigilante villagers with gory results. The onlooking villagers watch the vigilantes suffer the same fate they intended to avenge at the disciples' hands.[1] They are later seen torturing the villagers in Albion.[4][6] When the Incarnation Ceremony begins, they take refuge in the Tower of Conviction chapel. Though the two strongest disciples hold the doors shut, the blood eventually smashes through the door.[9] Then, they are turned into pseudo-apostles by the Egg of the Perfect World.[8][7] As pseudo-apostles, they share the common traits of enhanced strength, speed, stamina and angelic wings. They keep on helping Mozgus, who claims they "do not have hearts tolerant of the Lord's enemies".[8] Once Guts arrives, they get ready to fight. The Bubblehead and the Imp spearhead the attack, with the Angel Face following soon.[7] Once the Crow grabs Guts' head, the other disciples grab him so that the Angel Face may kill him with the wheel, only for Guts to use momentum and attack them. He defeats the Bubblehead with the cannon and kills the Imp using the mini-bombs and the Dragon Slayer. Despite attacking Guts with catcher and feathers, Guts slices the Crow's throat, who collapses in praying position.[2] The Imps are defeated by the combined efforts of Puck, Isidro and Jerome, the latter decapitating them.[3]

While the most normal-looking of the disciples, the Crow suffers from both a weak immune system and photo-sensitivity to the point that his skin festers from being in prolonged sunlight.[5] Because of this, he wears a complete black bodysuit of red colored silk that covers his entire body. He covers his face with a crow-like plague-mask, with dark-toned glasses and a copper beak for respiratory means. His torture device of choice is a man catcher, a spiked collar on a pole intended for removing a mounted soldier from his horse, and uses it against heretics with great efficiency.[1][7]
He was recruited by the inquisitor as a child when he was driven away from his village. He met Mozgus whilst waiting for his demise, with the inquisitor affectionately blocking the sunlight with his robe. He was affected by the way Mozgus told him that God needed him. Despite that, he greatly dislikes his job as well as hurting people, fearing he had become the monster people see him as, but he has pride in the holy post granted to him by God and recorded in the Holy See scripture.[5]
He is the one who takes Farnese and Serpico to Albion's chapel, where he explains the nature of his master's prostration. Once Mozgus is done, he bandages his damaged knees.[11] This man reports of the apparent importance of Casca according to the heretics.[6] During the start of the Incarnation Ceremony, the Crow pleads for Mozgus to escape the underground torture chamber.[12] He is ready to defend Mozgus, knowing that the door will eventually break.[9] He also is the only one in the room to see the Egg of the Perfect World before becoming a pseudo-apostle along with his comrades.[8][7]
As a pseudo-apostle, his body suit becomes a part of him, his mask now his face, with his feet transformed into functional talons. He also gains an ability to shoot feathers against opponents like flechettes, an ability he uses against Guts. The Crow remains to fight Guts, while sending the Twins with Mozgus for him to burn Casca.[10] After immobilising Guts, he announces that Guts is condemned to death by the wheel for the sin of attempting to kill one of the clergy, waiting for the Angel Face to smash him. He is then amazed at how Guts uses the attack as a rebound. Once his companions meet their demises, he thanks God for the "miracle" he is witnessing at the end of their lives as well as meeting Mozgus. Despite attacking Guts with catcher and feathers, Guts slices his throat, the Crow falling dead in a praying position.[2]
The Crow is seen one last time in a mass of dead spirits during the formation of Void's shadow vessel.[13]
The Imp[]
The Imp.
The smallest of the disciples and the second of the group who spoke, his eyes bluish. His face is split in the middle from his lower jaw up to the nose, resembling a very grave cleft palate[7] and two horn-like features on his forehead. He is sensitive about them, which is demonstrated when he tells Casca to stop touching them when he leads her to the underground torture chamber.[6] He is also the one who leads Nina there alongside the Bubblehead, and expresses disgust at Nina's selfishness.[14] His weapon of choice is a plier in each hand, to be used against heretics by pulling out their eyes.[1][7]
He is alongside with the others turned into a pseudo-apostle.[8][7] His "horns" become small wings,[15], and his speed increases.[2] As the group consisting of Isidro, Jerome, Nina and Luca approaches, he identifies Nina as "the witch's friend".[8] He remains behind to fight Guts.[10] During his fight, he is stabbed in the left eye[15] and dies after sustaining heavy damage from Guts' mini-bombs, being then rammed through via Dragon Slayer.[2]
He is seen one last time as God Hand Ubik's shadow vessel.[13]
The Angel Face[]
The Angel Face.
His mutation is to his face, which did not seem to age like the rest of his body, the results being a man with a child's face.[7] He is silent and built like a bodybuilder, allowing him to act as the muscle of the group. His weapon of choice is the wheel of torture, like the ones Mozgus condemns heretics to.[1][7] During the start of the Incarnation Ceremony, he fights against the congealed spirits using his wheel.[12] He is one of the people who held the doors when the spirits of the area awoke.[9] He is turned into a pseudo-apostle like the rest of the disciples.[8][7] As a pseudo-apostle, he gains way more strength than the others, with visible increase in muscle mass.[7] He remains behind to fight Guts, and is seen crying when Guts slashes one of his shoulders.[10] Once his comrades immobilise Guts, he smashes him with the wheel. He meets his demise when Guts attacks with his cannon, having used the wheel attack to gain momentum.[2]
He is seen one last time as God Hand Conrad's shadow vessel.[13]
The Bubblehead[]
The Bubblehead.
The tallest of the group and seemingly oldest, a strong man with a misshapen skull.[7] His weapon of choice is a chain with a set of razor-sharp jaws on the end.[1][7] He is one of the people who hold the doors when the spirits of the area awake.[9] He is turned into a pseudo-apostle like the rest of the disciples.[8][7] As the group consisting of Isidro, Jerome, Nina and Luca approaches, he starts attacking them[8] until Guts' arrival.[16] He remains behind to fight Guts.[10] As a pseudo-apostle, he gains an increased stamina, evident when Guts cuts his right arm off and he does not seem to notice.[7] He also keeps Guts immobilised even after the former mercenary is smashed with the wheel. He meets his demise when Guts attacks with the Dragon Slayer, having used the wheel attack to gain momentum.[2]
He is seen one last time as God Hand Slan's shadow vessel.[13]
The Twins[]
The Twins.
A duo of misshapen, good-natured individuals with one functional red eye each who appear as mirror images of one another, wearing masks that conceal their squinting eyes. The twins enjoy playing with birds when they are not needed to torture,[1] and are able to see Puck.[3] Their weapon of choice are oversized saws, which they could combine to create an effective scissor-like weapon.[1][3] They are turned into a pseudo-apostle like the rest of the disciples.[8][7] After their transformation, a single wing grows atop their heads.[3] They are assigned to guard Mozgus on the Crow's orders and leave the scene as Guts faces the other disciples.[10]
They witness the destruction of the tower alongside Mozgus.[17] When Isidro saves Casca from being burned at the stake, they try to retrieve Casca back, but Jerome protects the boy and the woman. A fully transformed Mozgus urges them to seize Casca and kill the "heretics" with their saws.[3] The disciples charge directly at Casca together, brandishing their tandem saws. Guts notices them before Mozgus releases his fiery breath. The brunt of the flame attack is absorbed by Guts, but the flames that do not hit their mark travel directly into the path of the flying twins. Unable to stop in time, they charge directly into the fire, scorching themselves. They then surprise Nina, who is temporarily saved after falling down. They are defeated by the combined efforts of Puck, Isidro and Jerome. They smile at Mozgus before being decapitated by Jerome.[18]
